OpenDataCamp Delhi – 02 December, 2017

The Sarai Programme will host DataMeet’s OpenDataCamp Delhi 2017, a one day un-conference, on Saturday, 02 December, 2017.

DataMeet organised OpenDataCamp in Delhi in 2014 and in 2015 to create discussion, and a space for people involved in opening up and working with government and non-government data. This year’s edition will focus on open data in the development sector, and the opportunities that data sharing and open data creates for collaboration among different organisations working in this sector.

Event Details

The camp will begin with an introductory session on what open data is, and how an organisation that collects data can open up the datasets that they produce. It will touch open the techniques of aggregation, anonymization and formats of publishing.

In the second session, we will hear from organisations who have engaged in data collection or generation activities about the challenges (technical or otherwise) that they have faced, what they’ve learned from their experiences, and how these activities can be improved in the future. Often, efforts of data collection are duplicated. Sometimes, organisations discover existing datasets after the fact. This panel seeks to understand what it might take to build a culture of sharing and collaboration around data within the development sector.

This will be followed by a session on the data technology revolution and open data. It will consist of panelists who are familiar with the technologies being used to leverage open data for development and beyond. The focus will be on technologies that are easily accessible and usable.

After lunch, there will be a workshop that will allow all participants to work in groups and collaborate with each other based on existing datasets, open or otherwise. This will be followed by flash talks and a concluding keynote address.
